New Development Coming to the EDGE District Will Feature Indoor Flock Cameras
ST. PETERSBURG — A new residential development planned for St. Pete’s EDGE District will place security at the center of the resident experience, incorporating Flock Safety cameras throughout the building.
The Sentry, a 20-story mixed-use development featuring 310 apartments and ground-floor retail, will use the increasingly popular camera technology to provide what developers describe as an unprecedented level of security and peace of mind.
Flock cameras will greet residents as they enter the parking garage, allowing vehicles to be automatically identified as they arrive and depart.
Additional cameras will be installed at all entrances, elevators and common areas, with each residential floor featuring cameras positioned to monitor activity throughout the building.
Developers say the system will create a “continuous security environment,” allowing residents to travel from their vehicle to their apartment without ever leaving the property’s visibility network.
“People used to associate luxury with privacy,” said development consultant Graham Whitmore. “But increasingly, people associate luxury with biometric recognition technology.”
Whitmore says the cameras could eventually eliminate traditional key fobs by allowing Flock AI to admit residents automatically.
“If you belong there, the cloud will know,” Whitmore said. “And if you don’t, it will know that too.”
The Sentry will also feature a rooftop pool, fitness center, coworking lounge and approximately 12,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.
Developers say footage will be retained in accordance with applicable policies and will be made available to law enforcement when necessary.
Whitmore believes indoor camera networks could eventually become standard features in new residential developments.
Despite rents starting at $3,250 per month, developers say nearly half of the building’s 310 apartments have already been reserved. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with occupancy slated for summer 2028.
