Mayor Ken Welch Announces St. Pete Razing Endorsement
Mayor Ken Welch announced Tuesday that he has received the endorsement of St. Pete Razing in his reelection campaign.
The organization cited Welch’s long-standing commitment to historic demolition and luxury development.
Consultant Graham Whitmore called the endorsement “a natural fit.”
“Mayor Welch understands that every historic structure is a luxury apartment that just hasn’t happened yet,” Whitmore said.
Whitmore praised the mayor’s efforts to ensure that future generations will never have to suffer through the burden of looking at poor people.
Some residents reacted with confusion after learning of the endorsement.
“…but the mayor announced it,” one resident said. “I’m sure he wouldn’t announce an endorsement that he didn’t actually have.”
Whitmore agreed.
“If anything, I’m surprised this endorsement didn’t happen sooner,” he said.
The Welch campaign said additional endorsements are expected before Election Day.
