Development Review Commission Says Residents Who Oppose Growth Are “Brokies”

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Residents opposing new development in St. Petersburg are not experiencing a housing crisis, they are experiencing a personal failure crisis, according to members of the Development Review Commission.

“You don’t hate development,” one commissioner said. “You’re broke!”

Officials explained that complaints about rising rents, traffic, and displacement are typically voiced by individuals who have failed to escape the Matrix.

“You’re standing at a podium talking about condos,” the commissioner continued. “Do you own a Bugatti? No? Then why are you even talking?”

According to the commission, residents who are thriving financially and socially tend to embrace new development, often forming connections with what officials described as “Top Gs.”

“People who are winning don’t complain about buildings,” the commissioner said. “They’re inside those buildings, networking, meeting High Value Women, making money, building status. You’re outside because you don’t have any of that.”

By contrast, those opposing development were described as “brokies” and “low performers” who have failed to integrate into the city’s evolving economic and social hierarchy.

“You’re upset because you’re not invited,” the commissioner added. “You’re outside looking in, checking your phone, no messages, no motion, no momentum. Meanwhile, people inside are locking in and leveling up. That’s the difference between you and me.”

Officials further noted that many concerns raised at public hearings reflect what they called a “loser mindset,” characterized by externalizing blame rather than improving one’s position.

“Stop worrying about the skyline and start worrying about your own trajectory,” the commissioner said. “If you were operating at a higher level, you wouldn’t even notice these buildings. You’d own them.”

At press time, residents attending public hearings were advised to “focus on becoming less broke” before returning to comment on future development proposals.
